Josie's Song (feat. Josie the Dog)

from Derivations by Lee Jackson

/

about

"Josie's Song" was composed as a tribute for the passing of Jake "the Voice" Parr's Labrador Retriever, Josie, who died just before 2019. I offered to write the song for Jake, and he agreed on the condition that I put it on my next album. I agreed.

I had some trouble coming up with a suitable melody at first, but when I did, I found that it worked in both 3/4 and 4/4 time. So, I decided to use both, which explains why it sounds like it's throwing in an extra beat in the first half of the song.

"Josie's Song" made its radio debut on classical public radio station KPAC 88.3 FM in San Antonio, on May 26th, 2020 during James Baker's Friday night show, "Classics a la Carte." My thanks to James for playing the song over the air!
